Michael Hayden is a senior civil/structural engineer and a principal of Beck Engineering (BEL). Mike received his degree from the University of Calgary in 1993. He began his career in the fields of geotechnical and materials engineering prior to moving to BEL in 1998. He has worked on a wide variety of projects including modular tank prototypes, commercial Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) project, conventional oil and gas facilities and underground structures capable of withstanding armored combat tank traffic. His diversified experience is one of his strongest assets. Whether working as an individual or as part of a larger team, Mike prides himself on his proactive, collaborative approach to problem solving.

Mike has a strong dedication to the craft and the art of engineering and firmly believes that quality can always be maintained without sacrificing practicality or cost-efficiency. Life-long learning is a passion for Mike and he continues to stay technically current, bringing the latest tools and advancements to everything he does. Mike feels that mentoring is a responsibility and a privilege and he works hard to support the growth and advancement of young professionals and enhance the overall professionalism and standing of engineering within the community.

When it is time to recharge, Mike can be found on the baseball field, on the ski slopes or enjoying a finely crafted pint. Mike's thoughts on the formula for success: work hard, play hard, study your craft and stay true to who you are.
